PATIENTS
Neuropsychological evaluations are objective ways to identify
mental and emotional problems through testing. Dr. Nelson
is board certified in clinical neuropsychology and is a licensed psychologist. She is on the
faculty of the Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences Department
at UCLA. Her clinical work
is devoted to comprehensive neuropsychological assessments
with adults and children. She has an extensive background
in forensic neuropsychology, including worker's compensation,
competency, and medicolegal work. Dr. Nelson is a MEDICARE

RESEARCH
PARTICIPANTS
As Professor, Emerita, Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA, Dr. Nelson is Principal Investigator of research
projects that focus on Alzheimer's disease. She has the distinction
of working on a new, state-of-the-art means of detecting Alzheimer's
disease in high-risk individuals with Down syndrome. Her research
collaborator includes Dr. Jorge Barrio and
her research involves using a radiolabeled probe (PET-FDDNP
imaging) to improve early detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer's
disease. Dr. Nelson has published extensively in the field
of neuropsychology and been honored many times for being the
faculty member to most influence undergraduate students. Her

COURSE
ATTENDEES
Teaching is an important part of Dr. Nelson's work. She teaches a 3-credit graduate level course at Pepperdine University on Cognitive Assessment. Dr. Nelson also conducts quarterly (3 credit) classes (research practicum) for undergraduates at UCLA (Psychiatry 99; 199).
